Many Republicans would divorce their wives and start marrying their local paperboy.

Let me say this about that.
I am not gay. But having been divorced, I can say that if I was in a relationship with a sex partner that couldn't bear my children there is no way I'd ever get married.
I personally don't care if same sex couples want to get married. But, my advice would be don't. It a stupid idea. Why in the world would you want to share half of your hard earned wealth just to have sex and companionship?
The fact is that, if sexual relationships between men and women didn't result in children, there isn't a man on this planet who would agree to get married. The state of marriage wouldn't even exist.

As a republican my view on gay marriage is somewhat novel. I believe under religions we have marriage and if these religions allow gays to marry - it is fine by me. I also think as a society we have taxes and legal situations segregated for couples and singles. Therefore gays should be allowed to be a legal couple and if the bond is called a marriage, no big deal to me. As for adoption and raising children - I am against gay families - I believe a proper family structure is instrumental in child rearing. That is not to say all heterosexual families are good families but all gay families bring mix bags. Now this is just my opinion and I am not looking to make it law,

Well if this occurred, you would find that many Republicans lives would be seriously disrupted, for they would be out demonstrating to overturn the law. There is an inordinate fear that somehow someone elses successful union might impact negatively upon an others marriage? There are a number of Republicans who seem to want government to control our behavior, but not to impact upon our income.

Are you hiding under a rock or something? Or are you trying to get a national "law"? Gay marriage is legal in the U.S., just not in all 50 states.
My life would not be affected at all....never has been, never will be. I have many friends that are gay...they have no problems with me or my family, we're all aware of it, we do not speak of it. There is no need.
I will support ANY gay marriage provided the couple can meet 3 requirements.
#1 Both partners be at least 20 years old.
#2 Both partners agree to forgo "fluanting" their relationship in public. Most hetrosexuals do not give "flaming" examples of affection in public...why should the gay community.
#3 Have your relationship....live your life...and allow me to live mine, without having your lifestyle forced on me or my family through "proper" textbook teaching.

What I suspect would happen though, is that, fewer people will get married and have kids. In countries that have tried "any thing goes marrige," people don't marry any more. They only live together. When a live-in couple have kids but no marriage, the benefits for the children and the responsibility for the kids is unclear. It weakens marriage, and leaves the kids in society without the certainty that their parents will care for them.

I;'m not a repub but I can tell you that I won't recognize them no matter how much they whine, cry, pout or stomp their feet. Gay marriage is wrong. The only reason they want it legal is to get cheaper insurance and better tax breaks.
Screw them, they chose that life style and they can live with their desires without being married.

I am a republican, and I support gay marriage because I believe that if you're in love, you deserve to get married. I mean, saying that people of the same sex can't get married is like saying two black people can't get married! Is that right? One of our amendments says "No separation by sex or race". Think about it....

My normal marriage certificate would be a worthless piece of paper. After gay marriages, let's go for polygamy. Sounds like fun to me.

It's a Constitutional thing. The Constitution grants to the State the right to regulate marriage. And no other arm of government can take that away without further undermining the US Constitution.
And that does affect me adversely. Because my rights to believe the way I wish are no less important than yours. And if the Federal Government can arbitrarily play with State's rights, what makes me think my rights are secure?

Closet homosexuals in the Republican party would become despondent, jealous and perhaps even leave their beards (I mean wives) and marry their secret boy friend (unless they are seeing male prostitutes) you wouldn't want to marry a whore.
