People from Europe generally are most impressed by the Grand canyon and the canyonlands in Utah a little north of it. http://www.canyonlands-utah.com/

That whole rectangular piece of southwest real estate which is border by
the Rockies to the east .
I-15 to the west and then following US 95 from Las Vegas to Needles CA
I-40 to the south
and I-70 to the north
Within that space you will find the surreal landscapes and open spaces of your dreams
Arches NP
Bryce NP
Capitol Reef NP
Grand Canyon NP-both rims
Canyonlands NP
Petrified Forest NP
Monument Valley
The entire Navajo and Hopi nations
and just an incredible amount of open sky with literally 100 mile views not to mention the regional specialty ; regular double rainbows during the rainy season

The most popular places in the US would be New York City, California (San Francisco, San Diego), Colorado, Florida, and of course, Hawaii...

In my personal opinion--Outer Banks of North Carolina, Eastern Shore of Va/Md., lots and lots of beautiful places in the U.S. but the deep south (Tennessee, Louisiana, etc.) are generally not considered top destinations!

Tennessee!

West TN is beautiful (and where I'm from), but for a getaway, I'm pretty partial to the Smoky Mountains. Amazing.
