Digger G: "Perhaps the lack of a crime? "

Exactly like most Guantanamo Bay POWs/inmates then.

Should they be tortured just to make sure they are guilty?

I would hardly call kidnapping, false imprisonment and forced confessions "good treatment".

Where do cross-border kidnapping and show trials figure in the Geneva Conventions?

The GPS coordinates are proof that the British sailors were on the Iraqi side of the invisible-to-the-eye border. Their position (inside Iraqi waters) was also confirmed by the Indian vessel which the British sailors inspected. It was additionally - initially - confirmed by the Iranian Navy. The Iranian government - without any evidence whatsoever - decided the position was more than 2 miles east of where it actually was.

In other words, the Iranian vessels entered Iraqi waters.

The Iranians are now making an international incident over their own Navy's mistake. I am quite sure the Iranian incursion into Iraqi waters would have been forgiven, had the Iranian vessels retreated without taking prisoners. The Iranians should immediately hand their captives over to the Iraqi authorities and apologize profusely to the British for Iran's treatment of their citizens.

Like several other people who answered, the point is we don't.

In fact, it would make more sense for them not to, and then clean them up to be paraded around like they did in Vietnam. Look up Hanoi Jane and you'll see what I'm getting at.

Honestly, the Iranians are just trying to get Americans, British and other westerners to get into a "They're treating prisoners better than the Americans. We hate Bush" mentality while Blair's power is waning and the rest of the world refuses to get involved.

Regardless of your politics, notice how I am not giving you mine, this is most likely their strategy and could actually work.

Stop giving the Islamofacists your support. Iran is not following the Geneva Convention and is therefore not following International law. Try thinking before posting a question like this.

Firstly, the British are not terrorists. Secondly, how do you know that they are treating the captives well? They probably have guns in front of them when they speak on camera and are quite probably beaten when the cameras are not turning.

Hopefully the SAS will soon be sent in to deal with this Iranian scum.

Oh damn, wise up mate! First of all I wouldn't
describe the treatment they are given as "good". Degrading Faye Turney and another male sailor by making say those things on TV worldwide. They're not killing or hurting them because they know that would be a very bad move, and also they are playing mind games with us. You think they are sparing them out of the goodness of their hearts and choice? Not the most intelligent of people are you...?

If you feel so strongly, why don't you join the military and fight? Or are you just good at blabbermouthing and sitting at home on your computer? Aren't you supposed to fight like a man or did you think that you could get the sympathy of women for the Briton captives (terrorists) and evoke their condemntation of the detainees at Gitmo?

Perhaps you should change your name from corazon-roto (broken heart) to corazon-cobarde (coward heart).

“ Not equal are those of the believers who sit [at home] without any [genuine] excuse and those who strive hard and fight in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has given preference by a degree to those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and their lives above those who sit [at home]. [In reality], for each, Allah has made a good promise and [in reality] Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight above those who sit [at home] by a huge reward. Degrees of [higher] grades from Him and forgiveness and mercy. And Allah is Ever Forgiving, Most Merciful. „
