The Americans as a whole were strong on the mens side. Phelps was the clear star from the meet, breaking 3(maybe 4) world records at the meet to go along with what will be 7 gold medals and possibly another world record (the 4x100 medley will not have Brendan Hansen at full strength to compliment Phelps(who broke a few records), Peirsol(who set the 100 back world record), and Crocker(who were it not for superman would have had a gold)). In addition to Phelps, Ryan Lochte has had a superb meet, notching silver medals in the 100 back (second only to a world record performance by Peirsol), 200 IM (second only to a world record by Phelps) and the 200 back (ending Peirsol's streak of 5 years straight I believe of consecutive wins in the event).

I would probably say micheal phelps because he has gotten six gold medals so far at this meet. Also he has a total of 19 medals from world championship this is the highest number earned by anyone beating grant hacketts 18 medals. another thing about micheal phelps six gold medals is the same number ian thorpe had in the 2001 world championship until the record was broken by phelps.

Yes, I'll have to agree with anyone else...Michael Phelps has been very impressive.

Libby Lenton's also been great for the Aussie team, and Leisel Jones as well.

Michael Phelps was amazing. I think Ryan Lochte did a nice job as well.

It would have to be that chick that beat up her coach (father) for not letting her see her boyfriend wouldn't it? (oh sorry ... we are supposed to be letting that smooth over) .....

I reckon Mr Phelps showed the world what a real gentleman he is (as well as a champion - but we already knew that much of him).

He is a great embassador for swimming, no matter the country he represents.
