The second one was a trainwreck, but there were some entertaining bits in it. The first one was way better though. I will see the third one, but I'm not dying to see it.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was good, creative and funny.
The second, PotC: Dead Man's Chest, was truly a setup for the third movie, PotC: At World's End.
The whole concept of making a pirate movie is dangerous. You usually don't find a huge following for pirate movies. Disney especially took a risk because they based it on a ride at their theme park. (how lame does that seem?) However, with some clever writing and a great cast, they made a hit.
They probably realized that it would be difficult to create the same success for a second and a third movie, so they used the second movie as a hook to gain interest in the third movie. People want to know what happens to Captain Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, and Will Turner. So they don't resolve the second movie, much like they did not resolve the Matrix Reloaded, to generate interest in the next installment of the series.

I liked them both (the first a little more), but Jack Sparrow just makes them all interesting. If there was any chance that Jack died in the second one with no hope to bring him back, Pirates 3 would not be as anticipated as it is now. But we all know Jack is in the third one, because his head is plastered all over movie posters and movie clips (trailers) show it.

I am not looking forward to the third one at all... The 1st one was good. The 2nd film was good, but I noticed that all the action sequences and jokes and dramatic plot twists were so much like the first one. I saw the preview for part 3 and thought, "This is going to be exactly the same as the first two... Same fights, same characters."

Pirates put me to sleep. Johnny Depp's impersonation of Keith Richards was kind of fun, but I wanted everyone involved to walk the plank.

I tought the first one was cute. I didn't bother to go see the second one because the people I know who went to see it said it wasn't very good.

The first one was cute and witty. The second one, I think they were trying too hard to impress the audience with the gore and forgot about he wit.

I loved the first one.
The second one was funny, but ridiculously corny.
I'm still gonna see the last one though!
