A LONG time ago technicians were trained on the job and became pharmacists. I'm talking like 100 years ago though!
Now, in order to become a pharmacist you have to go to school for it. It's usually 5-6 years, depending on what kind of degree you get. To get a Pharm D. it's 6 years of school.
It doesn't matter how long or how good of a technician you are, you'll never "advance" to become a pharmacist.
A pharmacy technician can make A LOT of money though, it just depends on where you work. Hospitals pay technicians A LOT more then retail pharmacies do (like Walgreens, Walmart, CVS).
I have been a pharmacy technician for almost 5 years now. I work in a hospital pharmacy and I'm the Pyxis administrator for my hospital (I'm only 21!). A pyxis machine holds all the medications (tablets, oral suspensions, IV fluid, etc). I make $16.70 an hour and I get a raise every year.
I work with a technician that has been at my hospital for 30 years. She won't tell me exactly how much she makes but she said it's over $20 a hour.
So, like I said, it just depends on where you work. But, technicians never advance to become pharmacists, unfortunately.

You would have to go back to school inorder to get that pay raise. I think the most pharm techs can earn is approximately $15 an hour, depending on the city you live in. In Florida there are several universities that have pharmacy programs. At FAMU the program is designed for you to come out with a Doctorate degree in 5 years. Then you would make upwards of $110,000 a year! I know this because I have family members who are pharmacists and pharm techs (one is a mother and daughter). Her daughter who is the pharm tech knows just as much as a pharmacist and seems to do more on the job. Get the education...

They get pay raises like anyone else. Depending on where you work you might make aroun 9 dollars an hour.( starting) or you could make anywhere up to like $18.00.
You can still become a pharmacist in your spare time. 5 to 8 years of college.

Most fields have some kind of pay ceiling. At some point you might be better off trying to move into something managerial but still involved in pharmacy, if it interests you. Maybe you could work on an MBA degree at night.
