Fuzzy logic:

Usually found in process control system logic. An example of fuzzy logic could be a tank level warning alarm.

Say you have 5 storage tanks numbered 1 to 5 with each tank having a different capacity. And each has a float switch which activates when the tank becomes empty.
Tk1 = 100 gal
Tk2 = 200 Gal
Tk3 = 300 Gal
Tk4 = 400Gal
Tk5 = 500 Gal

Total storage = 1500 Gal
If you want to have a warning when you reach less than 50% total you would find it difficult to have just the float switches give a warning at the proper total without using fuzzy logic. As different float switches represent different tank volumns various switch combinations represent different total volmns of empty tanks.

Fuzzy Logic adds a weight to each float switch which represents individual tank volumes. The sum of the weighted switches is then compared to 50% of the total to determine if an alarm needs to sounded.
