If you reach base via an error by the defense, you will be charged with the at bat, with one exception: if during your swing your bat contacts the catcher's mitt, he/she is charged with interference, which is scored as E2. You trot safely down to first base with your 1.000 batting average still intact.

yes, if you reach base on an error it counts as an at bat and is just like an out in your average.

Yes, it does. Let's say you're up for the first time in a game. You reach base because Derek Jeter bobbles yet another easy grounder. You are considered 0 for 1. I'm not sure, though, if it affects your on-base percentage. I'd guess it does, so at least that will go up, although your average will go down.
