Contrary to what the other answers said there is one common feature between metamorphic and sedimentary rocks: layering. Many sedimentary rocks are stratified. Sandstones, siltstones, shales, even some limestones. Also, many metamorphic rocks are foliated, such as slates, phylittes, schists and gneisses. This common feature is due to differing processes, but sometimes it does make telling the rocks apart a little difficult.

No there is no similarity between the metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. The characteristics of metamorphic rocks change under height pressure and temperature but sedimentary rocks is the deposits that changes to the stone because of light pressure or chemical cementation.

Some metamorphic rocks are going to be formed from sedimentary rocks. If that is the case you should be able to see the distorted layers left over from the sedimentary rock.
