They made a report earlier this week that scientists now believe that there were very little to no new successful species of mammals after the extinction of the dinosaurs. Does this mean there were humans (or the evolutionary equivalent at the time)- and apes, and we were completely separated... in a since, humans have been around since dinosaurs?

Given we know that humans (Homo Sapiens) did not exist at the time of the dinosaurs' great extinction, the 'scientific' statement would mean either that we do not exist, or that we are not successful.
