There certainly could be. This is one of the applications seriously considered for high temperature superconductors. The 'track' would be a superconducting surface, and the train would rest on magnets hovering over that surface. Considerably more development is required before this becomes economically practical.

To help justify the infrastructure needed to maintain this superconducting surface, I would expect a superconducting power transmission line in the same corridor.

Maglev is short for MAGnetic LEVitation - like pole magnets
powered by electricity repel one another, causing the train to float above the 'tracks'.
