I too have lived in both Illinois and Texas. I found the same thing as you. I hated Illinois. The people were terrible. (Not all.) I cried the day I left Texas and now wish I had never left.
Hgherron, I am stating my overall opinion of the entire states of Illinois and Texas. I've been all over both of them.
One time while in Kentucky, I was waiting in line with some people who were obviously from the tour bus I had noticed outside. The line was moving slowly, so I tried to pass the time by talking to them. Every single one of them glared at me like I was some sort of weirdo who wasn't worthy of speaking to them. No one would say a word to me. When I saw the tour bus again, I looked to see where it was from. Then I understood why. The bus was from Decatur, IL.
To answer the rest of your question, I don't think being a red or blue state has much to do with it. There are hateful, rude racists in all political parties, also hateful, rude racists who claim no party affiliation at all and don't vote. It has more to do with how people are raised and the culture of the area.

If you were in the Chicagoland area, it's easy to explain for me . The riots and troubles of the 60's left an indelible mark on an entire generation and their children . I grew-up in the 60's and 70's and I was raised a racist too . I began to think for myself in the late 70's and decided on my own, that racism is wrong . I've never been a racist since . And many of us from that time period are no longer racists. . . but there are families who still hold on to the hatred from back then .
The level of racism in the Chicagoland area has declined dramatically since the 80's, and neighborhoods are more accepting of other races now . Let's hope that everyone experiences some evolution of thought !!

Unfortunately Ohio is now a blue state....
but with the rise of the blue state
hate crimes and crimes in general are horrible
but come to think of it
they were horrible here too when its was a red state
i think people in general tend to stereo type to much
i think the hate in Illinois isn't because the state is blue
its because the state has @ssholes for citizens
just because your a republican(and i am one) doesn't make you nice
I know lots of libtards (who are dense, dumb and psycho) but they are NOT mean!
They care too they just have a warped sense of thinking...
lack common sense and use science as fact and conspiracy theories ... just because they are mislead doesn't make them mean lol
people plain and simple can just be mean... with or without politics

Texas is a state that has a stereotype for racism which is so untrue. I've lived there my whole life and I've only met extremely few racist people. Texas is very diverse and friendly.

I don't think that the political leanings of a state have much to do with the things you have observed.
Observations are intensely subjective things and who knows that your observations are not also similarly colored.
Not saying they are in fact, but you see the problem right.
The characteristics you list are not characteristics of a political viewpoint, they are characteristics of people whether liberal or conservative.
While I know you weren't trying to be scientific about it, perhaps you would admit that your observation may not be completely accurate in all cases, especially on a region by region basis.

I don't know what a "blue state" is.
There is racism in the South, BUT, there are a lot of folks who have learned to live in peace and give up the judgement because we have so many other races among us. Everybody has to live somewhere. And we all have our good and bad points.

Having visited both states multiple times, I can say that you are probably skewing your data.
Are you talking Chicago? A wealthy suburb of Chicago? Southern Illinois? And where in Texas are you talking about? Are you comparing rural versus urban?
I'm not sure that anybody can reach a sensible conclusion from your personal observations.

You ought to go to California, the home of Berkley and San Francisco. You want to see hatred and intolerance. Here is some fine examples of the nutty left and their tolerance.
