I want to practice my sewing but doing it on myself or others is too expensive, plus no one around here truly appreciates a made-to-measure garment. I remembered that someone in my family used to make dresses for Barbies and I thought that would be a great way for me to practice and get better at my sewing. I tried to do it but it was a mess and I would really like some help with it.

You can search for the patterns or you could buy (or find) and old dress and take it apart to make a pattern. But you should thing about this first, Barbie clothes are very hard to make, you have to have small even stitches and the slightest mistake is very noticeable. I understand what your saying about the expense of practicing on less expensive items. You might try starting with Pillows or if just using some quilting blocks to practice straight lines. Also taking an old outfit apart and putting it back together or even making it something new is a great way to practice. Good luck with the sewing I love it I make so many nice outfits with out spending the designer prices, and as you said "made to measure"

I would just buy a simple cheap pattern like the "Sewing for Dummies", doll patterns, then play with it. Since it's a professional store bought pattern, it has all the seams and markings you need for learning basic pattern use and clothing construction. Once you get experiece putting together a doll outfit, you will find that the small size makes human clothing MUCH easier to put together.

Go to a fabric store and look at the pattern books for doll clothes patterns. These clothes are very small, however, and require tiny seams and precision matching to look good. Better practice or beginner projects might be pillows, placemats, aprons, tote bags, drawstring pajama pants, and skirts or tops labeled "simple" or "easy."

at the same time as uncertain, take an cutting-edge Barbie T-blouse of similar and rip out the stitches and hint it on paper to make a sparkling progression. you ought to attempt this with any piece of outfits. it really is kind of like sewing from end-to-starting up. It does no longer harm to attempt, it is what I genuinely have finished earlier. also, verify the fabric you employ is stretchy to in good structure intense, hands, etc. correct! have exciting in spite of you do! ;o)
