A couple of my friends said to just wait til I have a quarter tank of gas or less and then put in my new fuel filter, but I still want to find the fuel shut off valve. I have a 95 Ford Ranger truck. I have the special tool for detaching the old filter. I have ramps to drive my truck up onto as the manual says to use. Please help.

That fuel shut off isn't what you think it is...Fords, and many others, have an impact sensor switch that kills power to the electric fuel pump, in the event of a crash.

Draining, or waiting for a half tank isn't necessary, since the fuel connections are on the top of the tank. One thing you DO want to be careful of is residual pressure...wear safety goggles, and have some open container to catch the gas in the fuel lines. Cold engine is preferable naturally.

As with any fuel related work, safety comes first.

When you are in the driver's seat the kick panel is the panel is the one right next to your left foot. Same deal on the right. Wear safety glasses and unhook the old filter slowly and there's no need to kill the fuel pump.

Kick panel is the piece inside the cab of the truck where your foot would bump or 'kick' the side. They are usually just a plastic panel held in place with a couple screws or 'push-in' clips. It is right in front of the door.

I agree with Tumbleweed, the kickpanel is the verticle panel next to your left foot, just in front of the door. Kick panels are verticle panels. I have also seen shut off switches in the trunk (in passenger cars with a trunk) behind the verticle panel on the leftside.

The kick panel is the triangle shape plastic cover, beside your left foot, beside the parking brake.
