...and you can't say that it was not his treatement of the vetertans, because it is due to the fact that he just didn't give a hoot until the news media brought this situation to light, and it's been out now for what?

6 weeks, and he is just now apologizing?

This was the first time, since he has been in office he has ever visited Walter Reed Hospital?

Where has he been all this time?

Where have any of the republicans been?

All visiting Wall Street?

Bush's apology is not an apology. They are just words with no actions behind them. He said the same thing regarding Katrina and getting victims the help they needed. Well, people are still waiting for help. Also, if he was that concerned about the Veteran's he wouldn't have cut monies from their budget to go into his war. Bottom line....he doesn't care!!! His actions prove it.

You need to get your facts straight. First it was the first visit since the walter reed crisis not in his presidency, The President has been to Walter Reed at least 2-3 times a year since his presidency began. Plus if you think that Walter Reed just fell apart in 7 years you have no idea of facility maitaince or the funding of federal hospitals and the military. Plus it is a part of the hospital that is a problem not the whole hospital - in fact most of the hospital is still ranked as the finest medical insitution in the world. Why don't you get on Sen Chuckie Shumer who still has not been to the hospital ad he has been a Senator longer than Bush has been president but Chuckie likes to say how bad the place is never looking at it. I can tell you from those I know who have had to be treated at Walter Reed they have seen republican reps and senators there but not the leading dems who want to politicise this. The funding for the military was first severly cut by Carter and then Clinton to make major cuts as both did any future funding is playing catch up especially when you have maitenance issues. But Clinton do more than Carter ever did, at least Bill did make some needed reforms. Carter almost destroyed the military with his complete disregard for national security and defense.
SInce my grandfather helped found the Disabled American Veterans I have a stake in this and am upset when our military and vets are not cared for on their return and to make this into a blame Rep only thing shows your lack of long term interest in the subject.

I agree with Alaspada and Scott B.

Bush has visited Walter Reed many times. He visited the care center - where the veterans were getting therapy and recovering. He didn't go to the residential portion of the hospital where the poor living conditions exist. Many Senators and Congressmen have visited Walter Reed doing the very same thing and no one knew about it. It was only after the Washington Post article was written was attention focused on the problem. Defense Secretary Gates has taken immediate actions to correct the problem.

You people are absolutely amazing. This hospital is not much worse now than it was 6 years ago when Clinton was president. Clinton started the down fall of the military medical care system by closing on base hospitals and cutting the remaining budgets by 35%. He knew what he was doing at the time and screwed the military medical system up so bad some active duty personnel had to travel 45 miles for a doctor.

Yet with all those facts looking you in the face you blame Bush because he didn't keep constant tabs on one hospital.
I guess you expect him to do nothing but travel from one medical facility to another, because it would be a full time job.

I didn't realize I voted for the President to baby sit Walter Reed. Typical, blame Bush for everything that goes on. Try and comprehend this... it's not the President's job to monitor veteran's hospitals anywhere. But, when he get's a report he needs to respond as he has.

I was going to ask the same thing today - great job. I agree. He spends three hours with Soldiers and says some "inspiring" words. I find it ironic that he blames the dems for "not supporting the troops" and Walter Reed happens on his watch. I loathe him.

He uses Soldiers for everything. His crappy war. And whenever his ratings dip in the polls, he lines up a photo op with Soldiers as backdrops - I was there for one of them - my face was green because he makes me so f'ing sick. I don't think he can ever recover from the mess he's made. It's just unfortunate Americans had to die for it.

Poor treatment of Vets goes all the way back tothe Viet Nam era..I know many vets who would rather pay cash for medical treatment instead of going to a VA hospital..This is nothing new

What planet have you been living on lately liberal??? Do you honestly think that any president at any time wouldve been in contact with Walter Reed Hospital every day? Im sure you dont have any problem villifying a president for every mistake made by anyone in their administration. Remember some of these by your god. the clintons...

- The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates*
- Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
- First president sued for sexual harassment.
- First president accused of rape.
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation
- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
- First president to establish a legal defense fund.
- First president to be held in contempt of court
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
- First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court
the idea here is, once it was found out about, it was fixed and people were fired...grow up and move on.

you sound like a pretty lousy vet...i am also a vet who served in the nam..fac pilot...of course you lay the blame at the feet of the president...seems this hospital has been in ill repair for quite sometime..you forget that this president has given more attention and financial aid to vets than any other president..you also forget that Walter Reed still has the best equipment best doctors best medical care around...quit your whining.
