I was wondered if I should discard my fish food after a certain amount of time or will it keep indefinately.

Yes it does. Like any food, eventually it will spoil or at least lose it's vitamin content. How long it will last depends on storage. Heat and moisture are big no no's as is exposure to light. One company used to encourage you to replace any left over food 6 months after opening so that might not be a bad rule of thumb.

Yes you should it does go bad. Flakes go bad very quickly. I believe it causes fish to float or go upside down. I change my dry food out monthly. I also inspect the package before I buy to make sure it hasn't been opened or compromised. I have short, fat rounded bodied goldfish, and they never float because I buy good food and change it regularly. Fish will eventually have problems internally and be more suseptable to disease if they are fed rancid food. You wouldn't eat a salmon steak left out on the counter for 3 months would you? It would make you very ill. Fish are the same.

yes fish food goes bad only when it isleft in the open for the air and light to get in and when it do get into the fish food it turns to dust becuase i am telling you this from experience

They'll usually have an expiration date on them. Check to see if it does. Mine at home expires 07/2008 so I would say about a year is a good shelf life.

i don't think it dues if your weird about it going bad you could ask the pet store people
