The buick's check engine light is on. It starts normally, then when i put it into drive it just stays there until push down on the gas pedal repeatedly, then it will finally push off gradually and then when it gets up to 20 mph or so it starts working again normally. I went to Midas and they, unsurprisingly referred me to a transmission place - $$$$$ - I was wondering if there are any alternatives before throwing in the towel.

Your LeSabre is a rear wheel drive vehicle.

1. Check the fluid level & condition. Should appear red, not burnt orange color

2. Smell the fluid. If it smells burnt, then there are some internal issues

3. If the fluid check OK remove the pan & check for contaminates. I have encountered the same situation with a TH400 transmission. I removed the pan to find the filter had dislodged, therefore the transmission was not receiving adequate oil supply.

Take the Buick to a transmission shop. The check engine light also shows transmissions issues as well. If you don't you might be looking at replacing the transmission and that will be big bucks.

yes it seems like transmission issues. first off check your fluid to see if its just low. if it is top it off. also when is the last time you had the fluid changed. You might just need to change it. these are basic steps for you to take and check your own vehicle out without spending alot of money. Chances are people will say yeah you just need a new tranny so go ahead and try theses simple checks first okay. Also your fluid should be a little transparent > if its not change it along with filter.

you could try changing the tranny oil and filter.sounds like the oil filter is dirty and not pumping up fast enough.
