It's best not to take one at all, in a practical sense. If you decide to take a year off, your parents can no longer carry you on their insurance policy. Once you lose that status of "dependent juvenile" you can't get it back. You will be on your own if (God forbid) something should happen. All it will take is one hospitalization to put you into debt for years to come.

you can take a year off when ever you feel like! Your an adult now, make your own desisions, and present it to your parents in an organized, sensible way

go and get a job you lazy sod!! lol.... sorry, no on a more serious note, there's no such thing as can or can't, it's up to you want you want to do, and if that's taking a year to go travelling instead of getting a job when you finish your education then do it...

Do whatever you want. It's entirely up to you. There is no right or wrong way of doing things.
