How much approximately does a taxi cost? Are there set prices for taxis from Gatwick or are they all by the meter? Will it be cheaper to stay in a hotel and go by train?

Thanks for your sensible answers.

The Gatwick Flyer

This is a small coach service which has run from the Romford area for years. It now covers out to Woodford. If it doesn't quite reach the area you want, it will still be the easiest way followed by a taxi for journey to your door.

probably the Gatwick express and the underground.
take the train from gatwick to Victoria that is about £9 then get the underground to south woodford about £5, go from Victoria on the Victoria line north for 2 stops, change at oxford circus for the central line north 11 stops i think this will go to south woodford. total around £14. but you will have to take the luggage between the stops by hand. there will be luggage trolleys at gatwick but not at the other stations. If this is not possible. then really a taxi is your only option and taxis are metered. i would hate to think how much it would cost across central London or round the M 25 a great deal over £100 i am sure. a hired car would be cheaper. but still a lot i think.

Have you checked out minicabs/limo services? They should be a lot cheaper than a taxi. As you say to and from Gatwick, I'm assuming that you live in Woodford.

Train would of course be much cheaper, but what about the 'lots of luggage'?

if you take a taxi from the airport itself it could cost up to £80 or more why not get a quote from a local office in south woodford to see if its cheaper you could always post them a cheque as a deposit and obviously they will know the area your travelling to - if there is a lot of luggage expect to pay extra for an estate car maybe
