It is by Sam Cooke- A Change Is Gonna Come. It starts like this... I'm not sure about the rest
I was born by the river
In a little tent
Oh and just like the river I've been a running yeah
Ever Since
It's been a long
A long time coming
But I know
A Change Is Gonna Come
Oh Yes It Will

This it?
artist : Lyfe
song title : The River
album : The Phoenix [2006]
I was born by the river
That my momma cried when my daddy died
Maybe that was the reason I didnt get the attention
That I was needing to touch cuz
I reminded her of him too much
Couldnt understand what she felt so I hated her, yea
'Til I was old enough to hate myself
And I felt like a slave down in South Carolina
Cursing the vagina that gave life to me oh
I couldnt see what I had the potential to be
'Til I got down on my knees and begged God
To please take control of my life today

A change is Gonna come by Sam Cooke
There must be hundreds of versions available.
He actually was prompted to write it when he heard Bob
Dylan' s ' Blowing in the wind '.
The lyrics 'How many roads must a man walk along, before they call him a man' made him think that when he' d be old
they'd still call him 'boy' in the south.
And he thought it a bit shameful that a young white protest
singer had written such a great song about the shameful
treatment of Negroes. So he vowed to write a great one himself.
' So I went to my brother
and said brother help me please!,
but my brother keeps knocking me
right back down to my knees '
Great criticism of his white brothers behavior!

And I felt like a slave down in South Carolina
Cursin' the vagina that gave life to me, oh
I couldn't see what I had the potential to be
'Till i got down on my knees
And begged God to please
Take control of my life today
Chorus
'Cause there's no way,
there's no way, no way, no way
I can make it on my own, (hey)
And no matter how my friends try to console
They could never never know what I go through.
So I turn my heart over completely
To You , yes Lord, I do.
I was born in a hurry
Cause my momma had to be back to work at 8:30
Maybe that was the reason there was always this feeling
Like she was rushin' herself,
She didn't even have the time to spend
Loving her self
Let alone someone else,
So I hated her, yea
Cause I loved her, yea
And I cried, yea!
Like the Ku Klux Klan at the Million Man March
Partially broke my spirit
Partially broke my heart
I couldn't start to be what I had the potential to be
Till i got down on my knees
And begged God to please
Take control of my life today
Chorus
Cause there's no way,
There's no way, no way, no way
I can make it on my own
and no matter how my friends try to console
They could never know what I go through
So I turn my heart over Completely
To You,
Yes Lord, I Do.
