All turtles have sallmonella one them. And you can feed it lettuce(not iceburg) corn, fish, ham, chiken, apples, carrots, callards, celery(limit hard to diguest), tomatos(only fruit leaves are poisonous), brocoli, rasberries, kale, aperagus, tofu, and turnip greens. NO dairy, sauses, or hamburger meat! ALSO COLIFLOWER IS POISONOUS TO TURTLES!
Most turtles dislike dry foods.

There are no signs of salmonella in a turtle would carry this. Don't handle it much and wash your hands really good every time you do.
I have one for 23 years..he weighs about 1 and 1/2 pounds.
Don't use only turtle pellets ONLYas food. Soft cat food like tender vittles has more vit. A and D.
They will learn to eat just about anything. Mine likes greens, meat and even pumpkin pie!

There are no signs of salmonella on turtles, make sure you wash you hands (hand sanitizer) after you handle him..dont handle him ofter..and feed him a veriety of fresh veggies..
Also, if you are keeping him..they need a tank that is 10 gallons per inch they are..so if he is 2 inces the smallest he sould have is a 20 gal.

good hygene. like how human carru E coli in the digestive track and it doesn't harm them turtles carry salmonella in thiers. after handling wash you hands.
best thing to do:
it may have not been abandoned just walked there. you may want to rerelease it back into the wild. if you knew definatly that someone owned it i would advise against it. but you may have rescued a wild turtle from absolutely nothing.....

It was probably just going form one pond to another and should probably be re-released.
Turtles CARRY Salmonella, but do not suffer from it. Assume all reptiles have it and practice good hygiene.
