Nobody. He was appointed as "Provisional President". After several Southern states left the Union, their legislatures sent delegates to a Constitutional Convention in Montgomery Alabama, to draw up a provisional constitution for the Confederate States of America. This convention chose him. He did not run for office, nor did he know he was chosen until he got a telegram informing him.

The Confederate Convention in Montgomery, Ala., chose him as provisional president of the Confederacy. He was inaugurated on Feb. 18, 1861, and his first act was to send a peace commission to Washington, D.C., to prevent an armed conflict. He was not elected. He was a president without precedent.

No, I don't think he had any opponents. When the Confederate states secceded from the Union, delegates from different states elected him. It was not a formal election. However, he had hoped to be commanding general of Mississppi so he was somewhat reluctant.
