I changed my own oil this morning. When I went to the store the transmission started slipping and after a mile or two the exhaust started smoking bad. Then there was a hell of a noise and the motor stopped running. Now it wont turn over but the battery has all kinds of power. I have never changed oil before but yes I remembered to put the new oil in the dipstick with the red plastic cap. Help

The dipstick with the red plastic cap is for transmission fluid not oil. Sounds like you have oil in your transmission and none in the motor.

Sounds like you put motor oil in the transmission and none in the motor. You're looking at some serious money to get this fixed. An engine is at least $6000 and the trans is going to be at least this much. Twenty dollars for a service manual or taking this in to mechanic (not a ten-minute oil change place) to get the oil changed is always advised. Hey, I change my own oil too; but I always buy a manual and read it cover to cover before doing anything on my car. Sorry about your ride.

If it is still under warranty, if you did nothing wrong,
take it to the dealer, don't say anything about you changing oil.
They should tow it free of charge.
