Cotton will always shrink some, wash it in warm, not hot. Buy a little roomy, since it will shrink some.
Polyester is warm also, tumble dry and hang IMMEDIATELY, when the dryer stops.
If these are dress shirts, it is worth it to have them starched and pressed at the dry cleaners. I always kept 10 to 12 for my Husband, then 5 or 6 could go to the laundry while he wore the others. It is important for your shirts to look excellent for work. If you wear suits.
If you hang everything immediately out of the dryer, there will be much less ironing. If it sets in the dryer and the wrinkles get cold, they stay there until you iron or wash them again.
Just a little hint, keep some prewash in the bathroom and spray any stains before you put it in the dirty clothes, then you will be in good shape when you wash.
I hope this helps.

i have, if there white yes the only thing withe cotton put it on delacate and you can use warm water, after you wash it do not put it in the dryer, once out the washer you might have to strech it back into shape the let it hang dry do the same with the other but make sure you turn them inside out, but i do think you should thke it to a cleaners an if you hav someting old in cotton or polyester try it on them first since this is your first time.

Yes and No, you can wash cotton in hot water, but only if you want it to shrink, other than that, washing in warm is sufficient, and No you can not wash polyester in hot as it shrinks too so just use warm or cool water for polyester, and delicate or warm dry for both, not hot it shrinks clothes. Good Luck !

If in doubt always look at the tag in your clothing to see what temp is suggested. Cottons & polyesters can be washed in hot if it is appropriate (once again, check the tag).
It is best to wash white items like underwear & socks in hot water but things like white t-shirts usually have a "wash in cold" note on the tag. That's really to prevent shrinkage.
I wash my light & less vibrant colors in warm & dark & bright colors in cold.
Be sure to watch for tags that say "hang to dry" or "dry flat". In my experience, they really mean it!

You can if you want the cotton to shrink.
I would be careful with cotton in hot water it has the potential to shrink. Your clothes will last longer and fade less if you wash in cold, especially dark colors. Things that are very dirty use warm. Underware and things that may need sanitizing hot.
You may have shirts that are permapress (no ironing required) hot water will ruin the permapress and they will wrinkle badly.

The cotton will shrink in heat. In high heat the poly will melt.
Washing in hot water will set any stain you have. So will drying it so check beforehand to make sure its out.
The water isn't usually hot enough to melt poly, but the dryer is.
Always follow the manufaturers recommendations for cleaning (see the label).
IF your clothes are dry clean only, you take your chances on shrinkage when washing (never never dry dry clean only garments (or wool)

Yes, you can. My daughter has dust mite allergies, and I've been washing all of my family's clothes & bedding in hot water for about a year now and haven't had any problems. I have heard it will cause a little more wear and tear and fading on your clothes ... haven't noticed it though.

Yes you can. Although lukewarm is always better. The one thing you should not do is put it in the dryer. It will shrink the garments. Dark clothes especially black should be washed in cold to preserve their colour.
