If its a potted plant... ensure potting soil has peat moss and perlite ( peat moss to retain water, perlite to allow excess water to drain ). If plant is outdoors, you may need to do perk test to determine if your soil has poor drainage. If poor drainage exists, amend the area planted. Remove topsoil to depth of 3-4 inches. You may lay a base of river pebbles..less than half inch, then add topsoil that has had peatmoss and perlite. One last thought.. when watering, use one of the wands ( kind that sprays water out like a soft shower )... water in a gentle sweeping motion.. that way the water will soak in by the time you sweep back over that area. Good luck, and re-seeding never hurts.

If they are in containers, you need holes in the bottom to allow excess water to flow out. If they are in the ground, natural saturation should take care of it. When I plant in the ground, I use products in the planting soil that aerate easily. I add peat moss and sand to my potting soil. Also use vermiculite to keep the soil loose.
