in order to put people down, abuse them,,,,, you must see them as "less then yourself",,, so hence during slavery times, blacks were often not seen as totally human by the slaveholders,,,,,,,,,,, and some others
i think its so important, when discussing these subjects, to make sure and point out that you are speaking of a certain population,,, there were many that felt slavery was not right, that blacks were equals,,,,,, all during slavery and since ,,,,, so only a limited group felt that way,,,, often the extremist are the vocal ones, and when they have power they are even more dangerous

Blacks were little more than savages when they were first taken from Africa. In many cases the people they brought over to the US were dropped of in Puerto Rico and the second generation was brought on over to the US. Since they were believed to be sub human and somewhat dangerous they were not educated. When slavery was abolished you had a large group of people who had no skills, were uneducated and were not ready to fit into society. Couple this with the animosity of the Yankee soldiers who were in the South and trying to force the issues of acceptance. It was difficult for people to change their beliefs whether white or black and a great deal of resentment built up on both sides. It takes many years to rebuild trust.

Even though slavery was abolished, the access to education was still very limited for the African-Americans. One reason why one group of people looks down another is simply the lack of education.

Were? They still are. Why? because of people like jessie Jackson who always cry when a black person is the focus of something bad. Blacks here in the USA can be just a normal person, But no, People like Jessie Jackson always want to keep the Race issue involved. Its sick! Would be nice SOMEDAY if people like Jessie Jackson just went away, and we could (Humans) just be us.

Simply because they originally formed the slave population and the colour of your skin then carried this stigma with it, even after the abolition.

Is this a history/school question? If so, check your textbook. If not, a) because the whites were so stupid and close-minded and b) because the whites were so stupid and close-minded.
