Penecillin,which is apparently made with
from the mould on bread. I'm not sure if the bread has to be sliced, though! :p

Best thing has to be nudity...
According to Wikipedia, sliced bread has only been around since the 1920's so the best invention before then would be indoor plumbing all though the car is pretty sweet too.

Deep Fried Chicken Gizzards with ranch dressing to dip them. Don't pooh pooh my answer. There was a place near where I used to live(still single) where this was the house speciality on friday nights. Darts and gizzards were the attraction, and beer of course. It was where the Jet Set came to go slumming. I once saw George Clooney there throwing darts and eating gizzards. Before there was sliced bread there was you, babe and Starbucks(I don't drink coffee) hot cider with whipped cream.
