t's possible you have been over using your arms by typing on the computer. Many modern day pain problems are coming from using computers. It places a great deal of stress on the neck, shoulders, arms, and hands.

Take a break for a few days from the computer. Use a moist heating pad on your shoulder for twenty minutes at a time. Take an over the counter inflammation medicines such as Advil.

If you do not feel better within a week consult your medical doctor.

Prolong sitting can make your shoulder uncomfortable especially if you dont sit properly. Well, a hot compress might help you lossen the tight muscle on your shoulder. Have it massage to circulate the blood around the neck and the shoulder. Try to do exercises everyday, and if you sit for an hour, get up and get yourself some juice to drink, because painful shoulders sometimes is due to lack of liquid intake.

I'd check with the doctor as well. You may have pulled a muscle, have arthritis, or even brocitis. I know brocitis runs in my family. Every once in awhile they get a cortisone shot and they are good for awhile. For now though, throw some heat on it a couple times a day and take a few motrin in my opinion.

As a massage therapist, I would be advising firstly to seek the professional opinion of a doctor to determine if there is any inflammation for starters.
If it is just a build up of tension from poor posture or repetitive tasks a good massage may help.
Also, look at your pillow. We all spend so many hours sleeping on our pillows but often pay no attention to quality. I personally recommend contour pillows to help keep the neck in alignment.
