You must have heard the saying "behind every great man there is a great women". we are better, superior at all things and then we let you boys take the credit and the "flack" for it as well - why should I get my hands dirty if you guys are well capable of doing it - especially if I ask nicely with a smile :-). I get the money; the clothes etc - so tell me who is the brightest of the species?

Men and women are not created equal, they will never be equal.

Its a little like apples and oranges. An apple does not equal an orange and vice versa.

My opinion is that under usual circumstances the male gender have set the criteria for what is "great" and what is "important". its like that old cliche "history of war is written by the victorious". whilst this isn't a war the premise certainly stands.

we can only point to this question because men have set the parameters which measure success.

talking of great leaders, Indira Ghandi!

I'd also like to add that though the patriarchy runs common in the modern, Roman Catholic influenced part of the world, that has not been the case throughout all human history. Ancient Greek and Norse cultures had great respect for the females, women ran the households. Then there are profoundly influential female leaders are such as Joan de Arc, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria, Katerina the Great- abolished feudal rule in Russia amongst other accomplishments, Queen Isabella- you can say that Columbus discover America, but it was Isabella who sent him forth and paid for the trip, artists Maya Plisetskaya, Georgia O'Keeffe, Janis Joplin and so many more! Though, the ratio is not in females favor.
It seems to me that males tend to have much stronger need to prove Their Greatness, when we, wise creatures as we are, instinctively know that each one of us is a Goddess and more often are simply content to be amused by men's antics :)

What about Condoleeza Rice or the first female supreme court justice? Many women have positions of power. Of course, not nearly as often as men, I agree. It takes a certain type of woman to give up her personal life and basically live for her job like these women have to.I think women have come a long way in only 100 years. We are even going to have a woman run for President this year. My wife used to have a high powered corporate position before she became disabled. I think women have made great strides.

The basic premise of Feminism is to give women equal opportunities. It's still a battle, as you've just pointed out. Since women did not have equal opportunities for career and education through the ages, there were not as many "great minds" that were female. Despite that, there have been some remarkable women through the ages. Pharaoh Hatchepsut and Madame Curie, are the first two that come to mind. Remarkable women who succeeded despite having far more stacked against them. Imagine what would have happened if the playing field were level through the ages.

Women refuse to bother trying to get into those jobs, instead preferring to complain that someone is stopping them.

Complaining is easy. Actually trying to be an effective leader is difficult.

Look at Carly Fiorina of HP, who got kicked out because she sucked even though she was CEO.

What a great job the men are doing of running the world eh?

Some women occupy high power jobs, Condoleeza Rice, Margaret Beckett and there are lot of high powered ladies in various commercial sectors particularly in the IT industry.

But that said, you are right, there is a significant imbalance. Alot of women cannot climb to the top unless they want to be VP for Human Resources!

because when one of the parents has to stay home for the kids, society expects the woman to do it for no reason other than tradition. because boneheaded morons still think that women just aren't as mentally capable for certain jobs, despite the mountain of scientific evidence to the contrary. because of the tradition of cronyism in both business and politics. because of "male-bonding" networking activities such as golf or going out to the bars where contacts are made between men and where women are traditionally excluded. because men are taught to be hypersexual and that they have no control over their sexuality and to celebrate aggressive sexuality and so women are seen as lesser sex objects instead of colleagues. i'm sure there are more; those are just the first ones to come to mind.

You say that with such pride but the great leaders of the world have allowed famine, death, water that is contaminated, slavery of children for the purpose of business, innocents to be harmed, hatred, mutilation, strife, poverty, the list goes on and on. Is that something you are proud of?

All PEOPLE should strive to be as different from the world leaders as possible...
