My friend's uncle can him about 2600 dollars, and he said that the only thing he can use them for is to start a business in anything he wants.. What do you suggest? I’m out of ideas, he likes writing books. When I suggested writing novels and selling them in one of the big bookshops in town he said no, as it takes a couple of years to finish just one book, and he has to start on this " business" thing now... any ideas?!

Your friend's skills and interests are what's really important in determining the success of whatever business he decides to pursue. What works for one person might not work for another. His two options would be to either provide a product or provide a service. Maybe he could pursue web design or sell on Ebay? Maybe he could write a newsletter on an obscure topic that he's passionate about? Maybe he would like to start up a non profit business aimed at helping released inmates find employment? There are so many ideas but without knowing your friend, it's impossible to pinpoint what's right (or profitable) for him and his community. Your local library has a number of books of business ideas that he can review and then perfect. $2600 is alot of money for some businesses while wouldn't make a dent in the start up of other ventures. Once he's decided what he wants to do, steer him to taking the time to write a business plan and educate himself in the industry to know the market and target customers. So many huge businesses have started off from home: Lillian Vernon; Coca Cola; and Dell Computers are examples.

Ok while this is not about writing books, its about writing. Set up web pages with specialised or unique information that he knows or can research. Put it up on the web and generate revenues with Google Adsense.
