I would be very careful of statements like that. Unlike Iraq, Iran DOES have the possibility of Nuclear WMD's, they are a lot more aggressive and patriotic than the Iraqies, and have quite a stable regime out there that people support.
Also with the stretch we already have with the forces of the US and the UK, there is a danger of where do we get the forces from?

The US has been quiet about the whole affair. I don't think this means that the US doesn't care; I think they are keeping quiet at Britain's request. Britain knows that it probably wouldn't help to have the US throwing its weight around at such as a sensitive time so they are trying to handle it diplomatically on their own. I have no doubt that if it does come to military action (and I hope it doesn't) that Britain would call on the US to help.
Given that Britain has been such a loyal ally to the US, it would be a real test of the so-called 'special friendship' between the two countries. If the US *doesn't* help, it can probably forget about British military co-operation in other conflicts. But given that the US is worried about Iran's nuclear weapons programme anyway, it would probably be in their interest to work with Britain on this.
You state that Britain and the US will bomb Iran if Iran puts the sailors on trial. I don't believe that's the case because it's a hostage situation. If Iran gets bombed, then the hostages will be killed. Britain can't afford for that to happen, when the British public is already desperate for the war in Iraq to end. It would be a PR and morale disaster, not to mention incredibly sad for the families of the people involved. I am sure that Britain will do everything it can to resolve this diplomatically.
In one sense, Iran has made a mistake by making it much more likely they will face military action in the future. On the other hand, perhaps they have been very astute. The hostage situation could take months, even years, to resolve, buying Iran much-needed time to complete its weapons programme. Once it has nukes, the US and Britain may not invade because they will be worried about Iran nuking Israel in retaliation. The challenge is to stop them getting them in the first place.

While i don't agree with Iran doing this , isn't it the same as what the Americans are doing in Guantanamo bay ?
England and the USA will bomb them ? Just England or great Britain ?
U sound well educated and informed why don't u go into politics or better still put yourself on the front line and stand up for your country ... brave words from a little man sat behind a computer screen ....

Iran isn`t stupid, they may well feel genuinely aggrieved that their land has been trespassed upon. The Middle Eastern people are different from westerners` in many ways, education wise, socially etc. they think differently and have a different set of values. One thing that is very important to them is that they do not `loose face` in front of the world. It could be for this reason that they have done so much procrastinating about a `trial`. I imagine that at this moment behind the scene talks are trying to solve this problem and some sort of beneficial deal will be done with them. They don`t want war or confrontation any more than we do.

I don't think the politicians will risk war because oil is too precious a commodity. The Europeans will bend over backwards because they have the most to loose .The Iranians know this and they keep pushing their luck. This war will be a long protracted war with both combatants fighting by proxy. The Europeans will broker peace soon.

I have no doubt about Iran stating they will put our lads on trial is just a load of bullshit and they know they would be cutting their throats if they just attempted to do that it would give a reason to use the bomb we are far too stretched to send a force in

UK may be up the creek without a paddle. They better not count on this Congress to come to their aid.
