Stephen Hawking, as far as well know people go. I'm sure there's some unknown who can outdo him, but i don't know their name!

Parents have a way of having super high expectations of their kids, usually it's only because they want the best for their kids -- and the kid needs to tell the parent when he or she feels overwhelmed. Otherwise they don't know where to draw the line.

The smartest living person at this time is Daniel Tammet. He is an autistic savant who sees numbers as shapes. He can recite Pi from memory to 22,514 decimal points. He learned the Icelandic language in 7 days and speaks 6 other languages. Unlike most Savants, Daniel is nearly fully functional and can actual explain how his mind works. I have seen him on several shows recently including 60 Minutes as well as a show on th Discovery Channel. Here is a link that has a write up on him.

Stepping back in time, I would imagine that DaVinci, Einstein and Ben Franklin would be up there as some of the most ingenious minds in history.

The following is guesswork. I don't really *know*.

They may want you to develop good study habits. They're concerned that you may always stand "first in class" because you're surrounded by folk or are either less able or not exerting themselves, or both. They don't want you to be at a disadvantage under more strenuous circumstances.

They're not pushing just for the sake of mean-ness.

To my knowledge the writer and columnist Marilyn vos Savant is the person with the highest officially confirmed IQ by the Guinness Book of World Records. Sources I've consulted put it at 228. Even her last name means genius or scholar. By the way, she is married to Robert Jarvik, the developer of the Jarvik artificial heart. Here is another interesting aside. I remember reading once that both her parents had different forms of the same last name. Her mothers maiden name was Savant, and of course, her father's surname is/was vos Savant. So, I guess we could call her Marilyn Twice Wise, because both names ultimately derive from the Latin word "sapere," which means "to be wise." It is the same root used to form the scientific name of modern man: homo sapiens sapiens.

I am the smartest person in the world. I know everything because I am Alpha and Omega. I am also the most important person in the world. Bow down before me or suffer the consequences.
