I avoid a lot of those questions because they are useless bash fests, but once in a while the statement is so egregious that I just cannot allow it to stand without making some attempt to set the record straight. Unfortunately these attempts at positive discourse are normally a waste as the majority of people who ask and answer those types of questions are not interested in anything resembling honesty.

You have free speech. I love the fact that ou have no patience for the name calling (its called sedition if it's used against an elected official, and is the opposite of patriotism, though dissent and protest can be VERY patriotic).
It is worth it. We must always remember the following about the people who disagree with us, which is why we must publically point out why they are wrong:
1) they are all younger than us and thus fairly ignorant of the facts;
2) they are from an ignorant part of the country or worse, from those ignorant foreigners;
3) they don't have our education and thus cannot possibly understand the issue;
4) they are absolutely biased and need our wisdom and objectivity;
5) they are led astray by their corrupt (politicians are always corrupt) leaders and need our guidance.
Funny stuff aside, answering them is a chance for those who have not yet heard what you have to say to hear it.
Your words are precious. They may be foolish, inaccurate, silly, but they are STILL precious and should be shared, practiced, displayed and QUESTIONED.
Each time you answer, you are questioned in a free society. We examine and answer you. It is terribly for a person who has a big self-image (good for your identity, as big self-images cannot survive such questioning), but great for your ability to reason (as you must examine your own opinions and adjust them to the thousands of facts we all are exposed to every day in a world with free press).
It is the most wonderful thing in the world. It is the thing that will topple the dictators of Islam and free the Islamic people to embrace that which they have denied and join the West in the 21st Century.
It is freedom.
Answer them. Teach them from a need to validate yourself, if you must. But never question if you should answer them because it is the most precious right you have (or should fight for if your country doesn't allow it).
Freedom Reigns.
(I do hope the list above doesn't set off a people who don't know how to read a whole post before blowing up! Humor is one of the most treacherous types of free speech and is often lost on the very people who need it most).

I got sucked into it in the beginning...thinking that my view might be - at the very least - regarded for content. But nope. So I learned. And now, when I see that kind of question, I just pass it by. That often means that I have to go through pages before finding a decent question, however!
For those of us interested in truly learning and sharing considered opinion, no - it isn't worth it. But I will admit, some get me so fired up that I can't resist a shot or two. But I try to be intelligent and leave the namecalling for others...

No, not really...I have learned that people who are staunchly like that really don't have any idea what a TRUE Conservative or even a TRUE Liberal is. They just know that they need to be pitted against each other.
The fact is that we are ALL AMERICANS OF THESE UNITED STATES. We should be PROUD to be an American and never need to put useless names to describe who we are in America.

Not unless you can say something very intelligent that snuffs the point or something really funny that makes them look like an ***.
