There are several good softwares available, such as "Coin Organizer Deluxe", "Coin Elite", "CoinManage", etc. Which is the best, is up to the end-users to judge themselves. One thing though, is that you have to pay for them. I can't find any freewares that is developed specially for coins and notes. There is one however, that you can download for free at
http://alainlecomte.free.fr/Download.htm#HappyCollection
This freeware was created for any type of collection, but can be modified with little effort on the program itself by changing label names to cater specially for a coin, stamp or banknote collection. I would have used this if I had discovered it earlier but since I have been using the program I wrote myself many years ago with simple MSSQL and ASP on IIS, it's too much effort to even re-input some fields for my entire collection. Another option is to use the coin gallery website called Omnicoin, at www.omnicoin.com, and its sister website for banknotes, www.banknotebank.com. All you need to do is to
create a free account and upload your collection image by image, and add the description for each item. This site has limited features, but the best part is that you can access your collection anywhere in the world that has internet access, and need not worry about your computer crashing or database getting corrupt.

I collect not only U.S. coins but coins of other countries. I use Exact Change, it comes on a DVD has most countries and has photo's of a lot of coins. Go to www.exactchange.info One I do not own, but read good reviews of, is Coin Elite go to www.trovesoftware.com. For currency I have found only one but there must be more. You can try www.carlisledevelopment.com they have one. I had their coin program some years ago, but felt it too complicated and took to long to do things. I really like exact Change. Hope this helps
