I can cry my eyes out when a character from a movie dies, but when somebody I love from my family dies, the tears are not there. Does anyone know why?

Some people blank or block-out their feelings when something bad happens. It’s not uncommon for people that suffered personal abuse not to remember the event, it’s a way the body protects itself.
Because people that you have strong feelings for someone that dies then your body protects its self, it would seem that you are more emotional inside then you would like to let on so your body goes into protection mode. If this is true then something in your past as affected you in the way you deal with things. This could be from as little as having a mother/parent that is more cold hearted to something more severe as being abused or connected to abuse.

There is nothing wrong with you, you just don't show your emotions the same way some other people do. Everyone handles emotions differently. You internalize your feelings while others may let them out. It's just your way of coping.

Hi S Aden. Yeah my dad was like that. When mum died he was steadfast and resolute. I can rememebr trying to hold his hand when they took mum's casket out of the funeral parlour and he shook it loose. Ten years later his rabbit died and he cried his eyes out for three days. I think it was dad's way of grieving. Don't be ashamed of yourself because you might be different.

just maybe you bottle up your feelings when something horrible happens, and let it out during a sad movie or something. Talk about it with someone, it may help. .remember it is ok to cry.

Maybe you feel that being emotional is a sign of weakness.
Not crying shows your inner strength???

Your suppressing your sadness when it is real. It's easier not to care. In the movies it's not real so your not afraid to care. Either that or you just don't like your family.

i am not sure why, but maybe you just...well, i can't explain it....
i think you will be able to find out, though....maybe you are just too, shocked or something like that...
but i think you should think back into the time when one of your family members die, and just think really hard about it...

well, good luck!

If you are not really emotional, then you are probably just a really strong person, and so when others are really emotional, and your not, then it's just because your a strong person.
