Yes, actually the biggest responsible for the destruction of the rain forest aren't those who live close by or around it. More the 90% of the destruction of the rain forest are caused by foreigners companies that pays poor locals to extract woods to feed those capitalist's companies needs. This is what the datas shows on newspapers and magazines posted about this issue. I read an article once about the destruction of the rain forest in south American, that mentioned the names of the companies behind the destruction, one of those was Thomasville, that American furniture brand, well known in the US. I got stunt, because my wood's bed was brought from them.

We all do, indirectly. From what I understand, the locals chop down the rainforest to make charcoal with the burnt trees, and the charcoal is used to melt metal in industry, and we all use products that have some type of metal in it, from cars to computers to everything.
I saw that on National Geographic.
