Sometimes laying in bed, driving etc.. I'll ask my boyfriend what he's thinking and 50% of the time he has "nothing". He doesn't meditate either.

How is this possible? I'm always thinking about something.

Our brains are active 24 hours a day...we think when awake and we dream when we are asleep just like your computer if you never turned if off, there would be some programs running in the background 24/7.
By saying "nothing", what your boyfriend is really trying to tell you is, "nothing that I want to talk about right now."
When someone (boyfriend OR girlfriend) replies with that answer the best thing is not to pursue that line of questioning and simply drop the subject, otherwise it leads to anger and arguments when someone is pushed for an answer who doesn't want to give one at that moment.

LOL! Oh, god, I think it's a guy thing! My husband says the same thing, and there are some funny male comedians who say, "Yes, I really AM thinking of nothing!"

I've read that women are often multi-tasking and can (and do) juggle many topics in their head at once. And it said that most men can not concentrate on two things at the same time. That's why if they are watching TV, they can't hear you ask them to take out the garbage! Or at least that's what the book said. (-: I'm not sure I believe it!

(-: Give him something to think about!

P.S. I just read some of the other answers from guys. OMG! Has my husband been lying to me for the past 20 years????

If he is human he is always thinking also. He might just say nothing because he feels it's not important enough to say. He may also not be able to express what he's thinking clearly so he says nothing to avoid trying. Remember if you're thinking about a blank wall, you're thinking. If someone ask you, you may say nothing. Because, you don't feel like telling them and explaining why you're thinking of a blank wall.
