My first love was performing. I've been acting in theater since I was 10, but I'm afraid of the difficulty of finding steady work in the field. I also don't know if acting can provide the contribution to society which I would like to leave behind.
I love politics, forensics, and travel, and have thought of working for the government, which is much more stable, but worry I'll always wonder if I could have made it as an actress.
Finally, I am devoted to animal rights and conservation, and feel I could have a fulfilling career helping animals, but I think I may be too sensitive to deal with some of the extremely sad and senseless situations I would likely come across.
So the question is, what should I pursue? I feel that by being torn between several things, not really picking a direction, I am standing still and not going anywhere at all.
Thank you.

Most people go through two or three career changes during a lifetime, so you should have time to do everything you want. There are *many* actors who have gone into politics! I think the acting practice really helps them project the right image to get elected (cynical, I know.)
Volunteer for animal rights and conservation efforts when you have time, and that could eventually lead to a career as a spokesperson or even something more interesting.
Go to college and get a good grounding in science -- that will help with the animal rights and conservation things, and I think the politician of the future will need to know a lot about science. See if you can get a minor (or three) in political science, history or pre-law kind of things.
The nice thing about acting is that you can take time off to travel and volunteer (as long as you are fairly successful). Just take it as it goes. Maybe you don't need to choose a direction yet, but you can prepare by taking college classes and volunteering now.

Working for the government in politics could open up travel opportunities for you. Also forensics is an interesting field if you're into medical sciences. While pursuing your chosen career...you can do valuable volunteer work at a local animal shelter (most are no-kill now, so you wouldn't have the degree of sadness and trauma as in other animal areas). And you can continue acting in community theater...as it would fulfill your love of acting without leaving you in an unstable profession

Dont get caught up in finding your 'life purpose'. Instead, discover your 'seasonal purpose' and do what you want to do. I am a photographer and that's what many people would describe as my 'life purpose' or 'life calling' or maybe even my career. But in 10 - 20 years time, I may be a teacher, or a computer tech, or a politician (God forbid) or maybe even a bus driver. Now is what's important. If you want to be an actor, then persue it. If you're actually passionate about it like you say you are, then yes you will make a living from it. If you don't get what you want, it's because you dont want it enough.\

I have the perfect job idea for you. Why dont you become a human rights ambassator for your country, that way you get to travel the world, devote time to charity including the preservation of different species, hold press conferences so you have a tad of acting within the carrer and you are helping the world around you - fantastic.

These days, most young people have no idea of what they want to do with the rest of their lives, so you are lucky in that respect. There are several books that can help you make a wise career choice based on your personality and worldview. Look for these in your library at school or visit your guidance counselor at your school. People who can love their work are usually the happiest and most successful. And when you decide, go for it!

PICK ONE THAT HAS A FUTURE THAT CONTRIBUTES TO MANKIND AND IS STABLE. FORENSICS SOUNDS INTERESTING AND STABLE. ITS GREAT YOU HAVE MANY INTERESTS AND ARE CONCERNED. REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU CHOOSE BECOME AN AUTHORITY IN IT. AND DONT JUST TAKE ONE LEVEL AND QUIT. STAY IN SCHOOL TILL YOU HAVE A TERRIFIC BACKGROUND IN WHAT YOU CHOOSE. LIVE A DISCIPLINED LIFE OF DIET, EXERCISE AND AMOUNTING TO SOMETHING THAT YOU REALLY ENJOY.
