Please explain in the simpliest terms so that I may understand I have never seen this kind of math so it is foreign to me:(

here goes...............................

f(x)=3x+5 and h(x)=6-x squared

sorry I don't know how to make the little squared symbol.

now for the rest of the question.....................

f(x)+h(x)
please show all the work and explain, thank you :)

f(x) + h(x) = (3x+5) + (6-x^2)

Then you collect the like terms (x's and x^2's)

= 3x + 5+6 - x^2

= 3x + 11 - x^2

f(x)=3x+5
and
h(x)=6-x squared
are saying that a "function of x is" first one 3x+5
and the second one is 6-x squared
so,when you add these 2 functions you get
3x+5 + 6 - x^2
simplifying gives
-x^2+3x +11
that is the answer

f(x) = 3x + 5
h(x) = 6 - x

Plug and chug.

f(x) + g(x) = [ 3x + 5 ] + [ 6 - x ]

Group like terms.

f(x) + g(x) = 3x + 5 + 6 - x
f(x) + g(x) = 2x + 11
