If we go somewhere such as Ruby Tuesday's, how much should we tip if we just get soft drinks and the salad bar?

10%? 15%? or ???

I usually do around 10% for buffets and salad bars, because the waitresses don't really have to pay as much attention to your table. From waitress experience, these are the easiest tables and we barely put any work into them (but the waitresses do refill drinks, remove plates, take your order, so they still deserve some tip).

I'd leave three bucks for myself. But that's IF the server always made sure your glass was full, brought the refills in a timely manner, cleared empty plates in a timely manner. After all, the server still has to do all the running and when you leave has to clean up and reset the table. And if there's a busser, they have to tip them out at the end of the shift. So padding the tip with an extra buck helps them out.

And I bet Daisy wonders why there are curly hairs in her soup! Dude, tips are usually shared between the cooks and busboys and waiters. If the food was good, the place was clean and the personel friendly, tip the standard 10%. If there was service like drink refills provided, deserts offered at the table, kick it up to 15%. If you got extra special service, you might slip her a 20 under the table, so to speak. There was this one place in Bangkok...

Depending on the service... If I have really good service, and am feeling generous I'll tip 20%.... But just so so get's 15%... And really crappy service,,, Nadda! For just a salad bar though.. few bucks is more then enough.. They just keep your drinks full and clear your plates!

I would tip what ever amount I thought was appropiate after taking into account, how well the server did his/her job. On the other hand, if all your doing is having soda and salad then, I wouldnt worry about tipping.

You should always tip 15% of the bill. You may do more if you think that the service was that great. And male sure that they don't charge the tip in with the bill.

15% if the service is good. Waiting tables at a AUCE buffet is a lot work.

Don't understand this TIPPING thing???
We tip our bartenders, our hair stylists and who knows who all? but do they get TAXED at the end of the year....Like the waiters and waitress? Nooooooooooooooooo! not in Pa. they don't!
I would leave NOTHING! Do bankers get a tip? A lot of people out there all do good at what they do,so why not TIP everyone! NOT!
leave nothing!

I agree with Annie D. $1 per person is most generous if they keep your drinks full and empty plates cleared.

I leave them $1 per person at the table if all they do is pick up the plates.
