30 years ago I was a Den Mother for a Cub Scout Troupe.
We bought balsam strips and made kites out of plastic garbage bags. We tore up strips of material 1 inch thick and 5 or 6 inches long and tied several on the string for the tail.
The Cubs decorated them with colored markers.
They entered into a competition at our local park.
Several Cubs won in different categories, such as best constructed, best decorated, most acrobatic and the big prize was the one that flew the highest.
It was one of the most fun jobs I ever had, working with the Cub Scouts. I had one of my Cub's stop to visit me when he was passing through town.

About two years. I keep a kite and string in the trunk of the car in case the "spirit moves me".

I can't remember but I have a new one sitting next to me just in case someone tells me to go fly a kite and I take them literally.

memories my husband used to fly his sperm kite at the lake thats how I knew where to find him ha ha we'd fly it together later
