how do i get from equation 4 to equation 5?

You have two equations in two unknowns, which you solve for the "f" velocities.

Sorry, easier said than done, since the equations are non-linear. I'm still looking at it. Normally you would solve for one unknown in terms of the other using the linear equation, then substituting that into the non-linear one, but that seems to come out very messy,

EDIT:

I have found an alternative way to solve it. I have done this for one of the velocities, but the pattern is the same for both.
