I smoked for 22 years and I didn't want the government telling me not to smoke and I don't want the government to tell the people not to smoke now. I just wished that I would have had the SMARTS to have never had started in the first place. I have C.O.P.D. now due to smoking. Can't hardly walk more than 25 feet without having to stop and catch my breath. The people that smoke should have enough sense to know to lay the smokes down and leave them alone without the governments help.

I will start off to say I am a non-smoker and would like to see everyone, for their own health and those who will be damaged by second-hand smoke stop smoking.

However, I think that the bans that they are trying to put into place now violate the basic freedoms under the Bill of Right and all it will take is the some very good, deep-pocketed chain-smoking lawyers and backing by the tobacco industry to get the laws overturned. It violates the basic right to choose. Most restaurants and bars have designated "smoking areas" and some have put thousands of dollars in remodeling to meet the requirments for a segregated smoking area.

Women have the right to damage their body and murder their unborn children; why should smokers not be allowed the same freedoms and opportunities to get cancer and damage their own health if they are making and informed choice (and with all the media attention and warning labels, don't know how they can be anything but warned)?

Remember they tried prohibition of alcohol and how that turned out; I don't see the nationwide ban lasting over the next 10 years as it denies people the right to chose, which is a basic premesis for people coming to America in the first place.

I hope nation wide the Bans are abolished! Even non-smokers are beginning to see through this sham and protesting the invasion of privacy, the right to do as one pleases. These same sorts of people would not blink at euthanasia or abortion! these bans are to coincide with those already being enforced in Socialist EU countries and want us to erode our own Constitution and Bill of Rights, little by little. Talking about greater safety! The people who didn't drink in the last century tried to make alcohol illegal in Prohibition and did the same thing. Give it a rest already: and live and let live! Do something else with your time.

It is an invasion of privacy and those who don't smoke need to mind their own business! First global warming, eating chicken caused Cancer according to vegetarians and now second hand smoke. Please, it is all false science and everybody has forgotten about nuclear testing that did take place and tumors and cancer all went up. How many people and for how long did people live in homes and apartments that contained asbestos?

Far left wing environmentalists would have everybody in the dark ages, giving rights to mice, just like they did in California, rather than put rat poison out to keep the disease ridden creatures off of farms and out of people's homes, calling the mice endangered!

That is what it has been done for. Notice the way they did it. Right out of Hitler's hand book.

First, no smoking on flights less than 5 hours. No one protested, exactly why they did it.

Second, no smoking on international flights. No protests, excellent, so they went to the next step.

Third, no smoking on any flight. People griped a little, but no protest.

Fourth, no smoking in federal buildings. Again no protests.

Since no one had protested they went on to make states no smoking plus PRIVATE businesses. Now some places are trying to legislate what you can do in your car, even your own home. Will you protest? Heck no.

That's the way they do it. They take a little bit of your freedom at a time. This way it doesn't look so bad to you .

Guns are on their way out the same way.

Freedom of speech is also on the way out.

Hate speech laws are one way they are doing that. Pelosi wants to take away your right to contact your federal politicians. By introducing a bill that says every citizen is a lobbyist. Being a lobbyist, you have to register with the government as one. Will you do that? Nope, too much trouble so they will start hacking slowly away at your freedom of speech.

They have basically already taken away your freedom of religion, unless you are Muslim. No 10 commandments, no Christmas religious symbols, students can't pray in school.

Our freedoms, according to the federal courts are given by the state and the state can take them back anytime they want to.

Example: The Eminent Domain ruling by the Supreme Court.

Thomas Jefferson said: even though our government is the best form of government in the world, there is still a time for revolt.

I think that time is way past

I am a non-smoker - I think it is unfair to the smokers. However I do think that there should be separate public places and bars for the smokers to go to. And if a non-smoker wants to be their smoking friend, partner, buddy - then they should go with them of their own decision. But if I am somewhere and a smoker wants to light up - I think that they should be courteous and ask me before doing so.

What I have yet to understand is why everybody is freaking out about every little thing regarding illnesses, diseases, dealing with death in general? Doesn't everybody realise that No One Gets Out Of This World Alive...

For many decades now---- tobacco products have been the GO TO items for tax after tax after tax --- to the tune of multiplied Billions in tax revenue nationwide !! As the non-smoking proponents dismantle this industry--- the tax revenues from these products cease--- to the tune of multiplied Billions of dollars---- the agencies and programs that operate on these funds are never going to STOP needing the money---and the money to fund all of these programs are going to have to come from somewhere --- SO-- they are going to be showing up in the form of MAJOR TAX INCREASES FOR THE NONSMOKER ---- this is the biggest single thing that the proponents of no-smoking legislations are NOT TELLING ANYONE ABOUT----AND IT WILL BE SIGNIFICANT INCREASES for everyone----Billions and Billions of added tax load !!!

This is one covertly held item of information that the people pushing this "national agenda" do not want the people at large to know about--- until it is all a "done deal"---- then it will be too late for anyone to do anything about it at all---and the only thing left for people to do will be to PAY THE TAX INCREASES ----- PERIOD !!!!!

Alot of non smokers complain about the smell of smoke, okay fine.

What about the people who wear cheap stinky perfume and lots of it ?

I have an uncle who is severely affected by perfumes. He literally has trouble breathing. His eyes water, sneezing and so on. The majority of people he interacts with on a daily basis that do this are NON smokers.

People that want to complain about smokers should first check to see if they are doing anything that is inconsiderate (perfume, cologne, deodorant, air fresheners, etc...) Alot of hypocrites out there !!!

I am for one glad.Just today I went to the movies with my family and right when we passed some guy puffed a huge puff of smoke right in my dads face. I don't know if this was just his stupidity or if all smokers are like that.So I am glad there is going to be some type of ban.I for one think the world should smell like Febreeze.

As for bars and places like that isn't that what the smoking or non-smoking section is for?I am still not sure about a complete ban,but I mean why would you really want to cause yourself a bunch of health problems in the future?

I'm a heavy smoker and I think it's great. Anywhere I can be made to smoke less is fine by me. Furthermore, I do NOT believe non smokers should be forced to inhale my smoke. As long as they don't prohibit my smoking in my home, in my car, or outside, fine by me!

I think when it comes to privately owned businesses it should be the owner's prerogative. If he/she believes more customers will come if smoking is banned, fine. If someone wants to make a go of smokeless bars, go for it. Why not have both?
