Ive been very lucky, at least 3 times Ive been so close to loosing mine but going back to my school years i can remember a boy who was just standing by a door minding his own business when the wind blew the door to and his fingers got really crushed the tips where hanging off and blood was dripping all the kids usually swamped round in a circle if there was a fight but i can remember everyone just moved away from him he was OK they sowed them back on but it makes you realise how something so silly can be so serious

I think its probably one of the most common injuries, especially in children. As a child i was forever getting my fingers trapped in doors. But the worst was last year when i was talking to a friend in the car. After saying bye she slammed the car door shut, not knowing my hand was still there!...I ended up with four broken fingers and a bruised thumb...God did it hurt!

Some idiot slammed a train door shut on my thumb when I was a kid-hurt like hell & had to have a hole drilled through nail to relieve the pressure, it was crushed badly at the time.Still a slightly different shape to the other one and aches in cold weather.

I think pretty much every kid has done that one. Never heard of it leading to surgery though. Although when me and my bro were kids he did have the tail gate on the cap on the back of our dad's pick-up truck close on his fingers and he needed stitches in one of his fingers.
