Simplify the following expressions:

a) 11b + b/2

b) 2w+ (3w+2)/3

c) 2w - (3w+2) / 3

d) 2w - (3w-2) / 3

e) 2w- (3w-2)/3 +2

P.S : all those equations like 3w - 2 / 3 means

the 3w - 2 is above 3 (like fractions).

a) 11b + b/2 = 11(1/2)b

b) 2w + (3w+2)/3 = 2w + w +2/3= 3w + 2/3

c) 2w - (3w+2)/3 = 2w - w -2/3= w - 2/3

d) 2w - (3w-2) / 3 = 2w -w +2/3 = w + 2/3

e) 2w- (3w-2)/3 +2 = 2w - w + 2/3 +2 = w +2(2/3)

note: 11(1/2) = 11.5
2(2/3)= 2.6666667

Unless I am missing something obvious, these seem relatively simple---just multiple by the denominator to get rid of the fraction and then combine like items. For example:

a) 11b + b/2 Multiply by 2
2(11b) + 2(b/2) solve
22b + b Combine
23b

e) 2w-(3w-2)/3 + 2 multiply by 3
3(2w) - 3(3w-2)/3 + 3(2) solve
6w - 3w + 2 + 6 (In this one you have to remember that when you subtract a negative, it becomes positive) Combine
3w + 8

Using those examples, why don' t you try the others on your own.

the answer for (a) in answer num. 1 is wrong actually....

11b = 22b/2
hence,
22b/2 + b/2 = 23b/2

b) 2w + (3w+2)/3 = 6w/3 + (3w+2)/3
= (9w+2)/3

the others apply the same principal.....just change the non-fraction into a fraction with the same denominator...then sum or minus it.....boom....ur answer is there...

God bless
