It's not recommended. They have poor eyesight and navigate and find food using a mild electrical current (you can't feel it and it doesn't harm you or the other fish in the tank). Keeping more than one in an area the size of an aquarium creates some confusion of signals. As already stated, they will be aggressive to others of their own kind when mature.

http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/supplemental/customer_comments.cfm?pcatid=857 Go to this site for customers that have bought Black Ghost. From the way they talk the fish is peaceful to all other fish. Must have a large tank.

Why not ? I have had 7 black ghost knifefish. They are my favorite fish. Even though they don't come out that much during the day they are still fun to watch. They are fairly easy to take care, just a hiding spot and a big enough tank will do. It's really fun to watch them eat because they just suck their food down. Really awesome fish. One of them pretty much rules the tank. The only fish that he doesn't have his way with is my tire track eel. But they get along together very well. Mine doesn't seem to eat small fish, but he will eat anything else. This is the best fish.

Although timid they are aggressive to their own kind but can be housed with other large peaceful fish such as Angelfish, Discus and Gourami.
