No, the ECHL is the training ground for prospects that arent as highly regarded and this is their proving ground to show they have the intangibles to play at the NHL level (or even the AHL where they can make a decent salary). The high scoring kids are all playing in the JRs and we tend to know who they are, these are the guys that need to establish that they can play a physical, grinding, forechecking tough game. because it is by nature a grittier brand of hockey tempers are easily ignited and sometimes a guy realizes the only way to the top is through intimidation so they are there to prove they can drop the gloves....that makes for easy fighting chances. The ECHL isnt full of 1st and 2nd round picks, these guys have to fight for whatever opportunity they can and any show of weakness likely ends their chances of moving up so fighting will always be a major part of the game at that level.

no they are not staged.the guy who said the echl was worthless must not realize that some of the best nhl players have come up through the ranks starting with the echl.i have attended many echl games and saw one of the biggest free for alls i have ever seen(2 players going over the glass after each other in the penalty box and the whole team clearing the bench,it took the refs about 15 mins to get things under control and access penalties,it was total mayhem.it was exciting to watch.these guys play with alot of intensity hoping to one day make it to the nhl.

If you mean officially then the answer is no. Hockey fights are not staged or coreographed like the WWE.

However. Usually if a guy is in the fighting mood he will taunt and goad another player into fighting. Eventually they decide to go and then suddenly drop the gloves right as the puck drops; it may look staged, but they've been messing which each other all game, it just builds up to the fight when they are ready to go. Remember these are young kids trying to prove their mettle. Sometimes all it takes is a "you wanna go" and the equipment is flying.

The ECHL is the most worthless league in hockey. Alaskans think their special because their Aces won a league almost no one knows about and certainly no one cares about. What a joke!
