My computer shuts down on its own. First my computer will start beeping then the whole computer shuts off on its own. I am running Windows XP home edition.
It occurs more rapidly when I am playing a game like World of WarCraft. Any help in solving what the problem is and what I can do to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

i did as all of you suggested and still nothing worked. i was looking around at some websites seeing what a normal Temperature for a computer would be and most of them said 80-90'F and the Temperature of my computer is around 65-70'F. I also did the virus scan and i didn't have any viruses or anything. i still need help to fix my problem

Sounds like it's overheating. Especially if it reboots during times when it's under stress - such as during gaming. Check the cooling system.
*IRT Additional Details
The reason the suggestiond didn't work is because they were probably wrong. If your system is overheating, there's only two possibilities:
1. Some part of the cooling system is malfunctioning or blocked - cleaning it and checking the connections will help - If it's an old system that's been used a lot, the thermal paste may need to be re-applied. There could be a blockage in the heatsink, etc.
2. You do not have adequate cooling for your hardware components. This would mean that you need to add more case fans or upgrade your cooling system.
The only other diagnosis that is even remotely close is regarding the power supply. But, if it's faulty then the only fix is to replace it. If you have recently made some hardware upgrades that require power from the PSU, it's possible that it doesn't have adequate power.
Another possibility, though less likely, is that one or more of the pins on your processor have become bent. It's highly unlikely as long as you haven't removed it or attempted a knee-drop double suplex on your computer - but that is one reason why you would be experiencing this problem.
As I said, though, most likely it's overheating.

You're an idiot. If it were power saving settings, the system would not just shut down in the middle of an activity. And if virtual memory were low, there would be an error saying 'Your system is low on virtual memory'. Besides, the settings you suggest for the page file are ridiculous.

If I had to offer an off-handed GUESS, I'd say the power supply has died or is inadequate for the computer's needs. Only way to tell that for sure is take it out, open it up, and inspect it. It could be overheating due to dirt. It could be some OTHER failed component. If you don't have the skillz or know what you're looking for, then now is the time to take it to a shop.

it is shutting down because it has a virus and it shuts down to protect itself. All you have ot do is remove the virus. Take it to best buy or some place that fixes computers. Or you can try to do it yourself. I use AVG. Type it into google "AVG" and its the virus cleaner. My computer was doping the same thing fo about a month before I heard of AVG and it took a while to get it because my computer would turn off in the middle of the download but hang in there its worth it. :) hope this helps.

all of the other suggestions thus far have been great. also check your computer for viruses. you can download 'windows defender' online and that has really kept my computer clean. i was having a similar problem, though not during gaming, and found out i had a bug. it's free and definitely worth it, even if that's not the cause of the problem.
good luck
