i want to become a model and/or actress. when i was a child i used to be a child model and was offeed the job of becoming an actress. but my mother declined the offer because of my education. i'm a straight A student, schoolwork is too easy for me and many people told me that i was pretty, smart, and talented because i discovered my talent of acting not so long ago. people asked me if i took acting classes and i told them no and they were suprised. i went to a school called hutchison school and most girls who got in the play took vocal lessons and tutors for tons of stuff but i never took tutors for anything. i'm gifted in art, math, ballet, dancing, acting, and so on so on. i wish to become a model again but i don't know how. i currently live in seoul, korea and u may think i'm bragging or making up things but if u really knew me u would know that i'm not lying in any way. i'm 12 going on 13 and i really want an acting or modeling job. currently i'm around 5'1 or 2 and i'm slim. help!

Don't worry about agencies yet. There are not natural born brain surgeons. They must study and practice. Likewise, all actors must learn their craft. Models need training also, but I don't think as much. You need to learn your craft.

But, first you need to win your mother over. Keep your grades up! But, be deidicated to your art - acting. Sit down and explain this to mother. Explain how seriuos you are and what you really want to do. Pratice actiing, take classes and all the good advice below and in other answers. Show your mother you are serious, dedicated and grown up enough to do this while keeping good grades and getting an education. You need your education!

Call a local community theater and ask the Artistic Director whom she/he recommends for classes. Check with your local Community or Jr. College or Adult Ed program, these places often offer introductory classes. Seek out local theater troops and ask them, they may even take you under their wing.

How much do they cost? That really varies. Introductory classes at a Community Theater or Jr. College run a few weeks are likely between $150 to $275. Take one of these to see if you like it. I can only say that a expensive teacher is not necessarily a good teacher, but when you go cheap you often get what you paid for.
Get lots of experience in school and community theater. Find a after-school youth theater. Take acting classes! You can even get friend together and with a digital video camera act in your own movie. Put it on you-tube and see what people think. After getting some experience, search around on Yahoo Answer for information on Acting Resume' and Head shot.

Use "Craig's List" Gigs-Talent or the Australian version of it to find roles in student/independent short film. Roles in these short film gives you experience and you don't have to make the commitment to drive as often as working in a play. (Be careful with Craig's list - there is a lot of Model Gig's looking for adult work. Just use your head and be careful.)

To get ready to audition learn a few good monologues. I suggest a Dramatic Monologue for your age range, a Comic, and a Classical (Shakespeare). Then get a Headshot done. Make sure you have the picture on disc so you can print it out. Later you will want it professional printed, but to start in community theater computer printed will be okay. Make a resume' and staple or glue it to the back of the headshot. Look around on-line for an example of a acting resume' to model yours after.

Send you resume' to casting agents and go to open calls in bigger areas. You are going to need to drive a lot once this gets going, and face the fact that if you want to make a living at this you will need to move, but don't do it until you know you got the paying gig's or at least a good day job in the city.

You can also go to the big regional auditions for summer stock theater where many directors go. Theses gigs are temporary, but a great place to get experience.

Good Luck - Break a Leg!

Your mom wants what is best for you. There are countless beautiful, talented women in this world and only a small handful become successful actresses and models. She wants to make sure you're an educated lady if those things don't happen for you.
You should talk to her about your dreams, and how you could go to school and maybe do a few modelling things on the side until you're an adult.
There are a lot of bad people and bad companies who take advantage of girls like you with big dreams. You need to make sure that whoever you work with is honest and legitimate. It is very important to find a well known, professional agency.
That is why it is so important to have your mom's help. She can protect you from the bad types of people in the industry.

It is very nice to know about your talent, what i feel here is, why do your mother is not allowing you to go for modelling when you have no problems with your studies. why dont you consult your aunt or a teacher for the help. dont worry there will be someone to help you, but please never let your dream/talent go off, keep trying, there are several oppurtunities in this world, the work you have to do is "Not to lose the hope and keep trying towards your goal"
all the best

Well in order to make it to the top you've got to live on crackers and water for about 6 months and sleep your way up at the same time. Good luck with that!
