Yes, I do. The chances of it hitting my house are pretty slim although I live in Kansas and they are jumping around all over tonight. I've been hit by a couple of them but nothing serious although the huge communications tower that fell on my apartment two years ago was a shock. Small tornado, large tower= smashed apartment building. At 62, I've gotten pretty casual about them and figure if God wants me, he can have me. My hubby's female boss did that and ended up dead so it must have been her time, right?

I was real young but later heard Mom tell me once I was old enough to remember but when we lived in a tornado prone part of the US. Whenever a warning or watch hit the news she would put us to bed like nothing was wrong, then she would turn on the TV and watch the snow on broadcast channel 2. Something about that frequency would apparently cause an effect on the picture that says here it comes. I can't recall what the effect she said was. But that Woman, my Mom, spent a few sleepless nights making sure we were safe and happy go lucky in our childhood. Gotta Love Moms!

I gotta ask her about that Easter when I see her just what the effect was she was looking for.

I'm heading off to snopes.com to post the question as well as straightdope.com to see if they feel the question worthy of answer. If so who posts it first

so to answer your question nope I'd turn on channel 2 disconnect cable if necessary and wait. 2009 would put an end to that option though. Digital TV and all.

Isn't that what the siren is for... so you can get a feel for how far it is from you? Don't you have to look outside to see if it's coming?

Where I LIVE WE FORTUNATELY HAVE NO TORNADO'S.
In Holland all we get is a bit of a whirlwind:no need to get panicky about at all.
I wouldn't go out to see if it was coming
See way to many dead on the news from around the world already.
Better hide where you can be safe while it is raging around.
Sky.

I first check on weather.gov to see what it's about.

It's often just a test or a warning for some small part of the county 30 miles away.
